Description

An attractive cabinet-size specimen featuring numerous lustrous yellow-green titanite crystals, also known as sphene, across a contrasting matrix of pale feldspar and dark chlorite-group material.

The titanite crystals show the classic wedge-shaped habit of the species, with colors ranging from olive-yellow to yellow-green. Several crystals are nicely exposed and show good translucency and strong luster, while smaller crystals are scattered throughout the specimen and become especially apparent under magnification.

The pale matrix appears to be predominantly albite/feldspar, accompanied by dark green-black clinochlore/chlorite-rich material. The dark matrix provides excellent contrast with the brighter titanite crystals and gives the specimen visual depth.

Some of the titanite crystals also show natural dark coatings or inclusions, adding interest and character to the piece. The specimen displays well from multiple angles, with additional crystals visible throughout the matrix.

Size: 80 x 45 x 40 mm. 140 grams.
