Description

Hold a slice of deep geologic time in your hands. This phantom Tamil Nadu quartz formed over half a billion years ago, long before plants, animals, or anything familiar existed. Its hematite phantom recorded shifting conditions in superheated, iron‑rich hydrothermal fluids: a dense, dark hematite layer from a high‑oxygen pulse, followed by a lighter “dust” phantom from a weaker one. These phantoms aren’t surface features — they’re ancient chemical signatures sealed during growth, a rare, clear record of a changing Precambrian world preserved inside quartz for over 600 million years.

This crystal has a few dings along the edges, as expected from a specimen this old.

Size: 37 x 10 x 7 mm. 6 grams

From Karur District, Tamil Nadu, India.
