Scolecite from Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India is part of the famous zeolite mineralization of the Deccan Traps, an enormous province of flood basalts. The basalt contains abundant vesicles—gas cavities left behind as the lava cooled—which were later filled by mineral-rich fluids. Over time, these fluids deposited zeolites such as scolecite along with stilbite, heulandite, mesolite, mordenite and apophyllite, as well as quartz and chalcedony.
