Description

The Spinatrypa spinosa is a brachiopod fossil from the Devonian period, in this case, found in the MIddle Devonian Ludlowville Formation of Western New York. This specimen, which is part of the Rhynchonellata class, that existed over 350 million years ago. The Spinatrypa spinosa has an upper and lower valve (shell) that are both convex and is known for its distinctive and well-defined plications, (or radial lines) running down the valves.
