Grape agate is a is a popular marketing name for aggregates of purple quartz in a spherical, or botryoidal, formation. Technically, these clusters are not agate, but a botryoidal amethyst / purple quartz. Clusters of these tiny purple spheres look similar to a bunch of grapes. These clusters, and individual spheres, can vary in size, shape and coloration.
This material is a relatively new find, discovered in 2016, and is found in the Mamuju area near the western coast of Sulawesi, an island of Indonesia.
