Description
Desert Onion, also known as a Sand Stromatolite or pseudo-stromatolite, is a fascinating natural sandstone concretion displaying beautiful concentric, onion-like rings. These unusual formations are created through the cementation and mineralization of sand over geological time, producing their distinctive layered patterns. Although commonly called “stromatolites,” they are more accurately described as geological concretions rather than true microbial fossils. Their warm desert-sand coloration and naturally sculpted form make them an unusual and eye-catching addition to a mineral or geological collection.
