Description

"Copper Web" polished slab from Indonesia. Forms when water flows through copper rich volcanic rock, becomes saturated with copper and silica, and flows downward into interbedded volcanic ash flows, further concentrating the minerals. The copper and silica precipitate out and create these beautiful "copper web" deposits.

Supergene Copper Enrichment in Indonesia

Tropical weathering enhances copper mineralization at the surface:

  • Rain leaches copper from upper zones

  • Copper re-precipitates in deeper layers

  • Leads to visible and highly collectible minerals like chrysocolla and native copper.

Halmahera, in North Maluku, while not host to major copper mines, is known for epithermal gold-silver systems and beautiful copper-bearing specimens such as chalcedony with embedded copper web.
