Description

This double-sided specimen from Garut, West Java, Indonesia has an intricate branching network of native copper. Both polished faces display blue and green mineralization interwoven with copper-colored and lavender-gray metallic-looking ribbons. Dark burgundy-red areas, orange accents, and white borders around small cavities add contrast and depth.

The blue-green portions are consistent with chrysocolla-bearing silica, potentially including chalcedony and common opal. Copper-orange metallic exposures are consistent with native copper. An associated lavender-gray phase remains unidentified. Cuprite is a possibility in some reddish areas, while orange-yellow patches may include iron oxide or oxyhydroxide staining. These accessory constituents have not been laboratory confirmed.

The surrounding gray-green volcanic matrix is interpreted as altered tuff. Each face reveals a different cross-section of the mineralized network, making the specimen rewarding to examine from either side.

Held in Old Earth Minerals’ inventory for approximately five years, this piece is now being offered for sale.
