Description

High-quality Indonesian opalized petrified wood, with a gorgeous blue and green “core” and beautifully preserved woody structures, polished to a beautiful shine on one side and the lustrous natural rough texture on the other side. High quality pieces like this are now becoming mined-out, difficult to find, and expensive. We searched our inventory and are selling our last pieces of material that are ready to sell. We have several pieces that are not yet polished and will be offering those later this year.

Indonesian blue petrified wood formed when volcanic ash, mud and debris destroyed and buried trees and tree branches. Over millions of years, groundwater that is saturated with silica, copper and other elements seeped through the debris and into the wood, replacing the wood structure with brightly colored silica. Because of the high copper content in the water, many of the petrified wood pieces also have native copper (copper metal) inclusions. This beautiful piece has those copper metal inclusions.

This piece exhibits a gorgeous green glow (fluorescence) under both long wave (365 nm) and short wave (254 nm) ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light photos are taken with a $25 long wave 365 nm UV light called the AloneFire, which we sell separately (see link below).

Location: Garut Regency, West Java, Indonesia

Size: 90 x 830 x 22 mm. 172 grams.
