Description
This stunning radial amethyst crystal "flower" comes from the renowned amethyst mines of Ametista do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Beautifully formed crystals radiate around two centers to form this cluster. With completely formed crystals around the entirety of the cluster, this is a rarity among these specimens. Minor celadonite on the reverse side gives a visually appealing slight contrast of color.
Amethyst crystal flowers from Ametista do Sul formed over hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of years. They formed when silica-saturated groundwater filled the narrow fissures in the basaltic volcanic rocks of the Serra Geral Formation (Lower Cretaceous in age). These beautiful amethyst crystals slowly precipitated from the silica-rich groundwater in a radial pattern in the narrow voids.
The amethyst crystal flowers are found only in a handful of places on Earth, and the limited locations and difficulty to collect intact make these a rare treat, for both mineral collectors and "philosophers of the unseen." We don't think you'll find finer pieces available on the web.
