Description
A striking and uncommon specimen of dark gray botryoidal chalcedony with contrasting white silica deposition. The piece combines smooth, rounded botryoidal forms with fine micro-textured chalcedony surfaces, creating a visually dynamic and sculptural display.
The coloration indicates agatization, distinguishing it from more typical pale chalcedony material. Subtle variations in luster—from glossy domes to finely textured areas—reflect multiple stages of silica deposition. Bottom surface is cut and ground using the traditional techniques of the basalt miners in the Deccan Trap region.
This is a particularly character-rich specimen. Darker, more agatized botryoidal chalcedony is less commonly encountered and highly sought after for its contrast and visual depth.
The longest column was fractured during collection, a second dome shows a collection or attachment fracture, but the skill of the miners in Maharashtra finished that column and done in a way that does not detract from the beauty of the piece.
