This is a beautiful, large cabinet sized piece of small, gemmy green titanite crystals with adularia (K-feldspar) on an albite matrix. The matrix piece is trimmed to display beautifully right out of the box.
Titanite is a calcium titanium nesosilicate mineral, CaTiSiO₅. As a gemstone is it called sphene, and is popular with collectors because sphene is one of the few minerals with a dispersion (light reflection) higher than diamond. Specimens of sphene with high clarity can display a strong, colorful fire when light is passed through them. The albite-adularia fluoresces a pink under short wave UV light.
This is a one-of-a-kind piece from the famous gemstone-bearing rocks of the Shigar Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan.
